All about Carbon Fibre

What is Carbon Fibre?

Carbon Fibre is a polymer that is extraordinarily strong, but also very lightweight. Did you know, carbon fibre is five-times stronger than steel, and twice as stiff? Even though it is stronger and stiffer than steel, it is lighter than steel, making it the ideal manufacturing material.

Carbon fibre is made of thin, strong crystalline filaments of carbon that is used to strengthen material. Carbon fibre can be thinner than a strand of human hair and gets its strength when twisted together like yarn. It can then be woven together to form cloth and if needed to take a permanent shape, carbon fibre can be laid over a mould and coated in resin or plastic.

Why choose a Carbon Fibre ring?

Carbon fibre rings are extremely lightweight, meaning you may not even feel that you are wearing it. Most people find that as they get used to this lack of weight, they prefer it over a heavier ring.

If you suffer from metal allergies, it is a great idea to opt for a carbon fibre ring. Being hypoallergenic, carbon fibre is not known to cause any skin issues to the wearer. This is an important point for people who have metal allergies and have reactions when their skin meets allergens like nickel, zinc or cobalt.

Thanks to their strength and durability, carbon fibre rings have proven popular with people who work manual jobs or work with their hands. Carbon fibre does not usually scratch easily, but if a scratch does become visible over time, it can be easily polished out professionally.

More reasons to choose a carbon fibre ring:

  • Strong and durable.
  • Low weight-to-strength ratio.
  • Highly resistant to chemicals.
  • Temperature tolerant to excessive heat.
  • Has low thermal expansion.

What style should I go for?

Black Carbon fibre makes a stylish partnership with all precious metals.  Carbon fibre is popular combined with white metals such as Platinum, 18ct White Gold or Palladium. If you prefer a warmer look, I can make a luxurious combination with the soft tones of 18ct Rose Gold and 18ct Yellow Gold.

Some designs can also be set with diamonds and FREE engraving options. You can find out more about engraving here.
